patchwork heart

everyday we live a little bit
grow a little bit
and we die a little bit too
and the world turns round
everyday we turn a knob
and decide which door to step through
choose quickly before they shut
as the world turns round
everyday we find little things
a necklace
a bottle cap
the things that you know are there
you just don’t know how you know
you know?
like the world turning
you can’t touch it see it smell it taste it
but it’s as clear as night and day
everyday the night comes
swallowing memories yet to be made
and lets fall a precious few stars
to replace what it has taken
as the world turns round
and you realize that when you give someone your heart
and they give you theirs stringless
you never really get it back
you never want it back
it’s melted into hers like hers is part of you
that’s my patchwork heart
you’ll be part of it long after that last time
the world turns round
